Dear Jack,
My darling, I do not know how to tell you other then in this note...I'm leaving you.
Your drinking has become unbearable to me.
Night after night you go up to The Hill Bar and Grill and blow through all our earnings. You sit up all night with the guys, drinking, playing poker and buying rounds for completely strangers that you insist are your friends.
Please, you know that I have begged you to come home.
I am tired of going up to The Hill to fetch you. I am tired of you tumbling down the street as I try to walk you home, I am tired of you pulling me down with you.
The neighborhood children laugh and mock me with little sing songs.
"Jack and Jill went up to the Hill to fetch a pail of water
(yea right only if the water is 100 proof right ol' Jackie Boy)
Jack fell down and broke his crown
(well of course you're all bruised up and broken you old sod you spend more time tripping on your feet them walking up right on them)
AND Jill comes tumbling after...
(now that is just down right disrespectful, that is, I have never touched a drop in my life...in public...and I am suffering the slings and arrows of your ill behavior in the community)
Please Jack give up the booze...I beg you.
I will be staying with my friend Mr. Porgie until you come to your senses, he will have my things sent for.
Jill
PS...can you have Your "boys" leave Mr. Porgie alone, last time they came out to play, George was barely able to run away.
The Rules, such as they are
The game of letters is a simple one; two or more authors write back in forth in character. There's usually a reason why they must write to each other instead of actually meeting in person, but that's a reasonable enough challenge given the era of Twitter and text.
Since we're all fond of different genres, it's also reasonable to suppose that more than one set of stories will start to take shape. Tag your stories with a title and the names of the characters involved and it will be easier to find story threads and add to them.
I'm going to be tweaking the site periodically to better suit the needs of the active authors. Feedback the change you want to see in the world.
Lastly but far from being leastly, this is supposed to be a fun exercise to get brain cells vibrating and fingertips tapping. Don't take it too seriously, don't take it at all personally, just wax your purple prose and take it for a spin.
